The Urban Shoe Myth Giveaway!

Last week, inside The Urban Shoe Myth, I sat beside Shelley DeMerchant on one of the plush teal seats, chatting about shoes. I asked her how she managed to narrow down her picks to bring into her shoe store in Uptown Saint John. Part of Shelley's job now includeds a biannual trip to the Toronto Shoe Show to choose the shoes to be featured in her store for the upcomming spring or fall season. She also admits she has always been a bit of magazine-aholic (kindred spirits are we!) and loves to browse online to check the lastest footwear carried by well-known, department stores and companies such as Nordstrom, Saks, and Piperlime. To get to know her audience a little bit better (aka the women of Saint John) she was thorough by running focus groups to see what her future customers would want to see.

In asking Shelley what trends have been most popular this spring, she indicated that nude pumps have been a hit, as well as espadrilles.While surrounded by dozens of beautiful shoes within the Urban Shoe Myth, I asked Shelley which were her favourite- which, in fairness, was probably like asking a mother to choose a favourite child! She paused for a moment, and went over to one of the custom made shelves in her store, drawing forth a Corso Como nude pumps with a cut-out geometric pattern. They're "like walking on a cloud" she said, as she slipped a pair on her feet.
